There has to be more than being a Christian, but there is.
The sin that is holding you hostage makes it very difficult for you to progress in this thing call the "Christian life" This "life" is all about taking you cross and this means taking your insecurity with you: if you speak up about what really troubles you, you'll think that you'll face backlash from people you know because they see this sin as awful and unthinkable; this is the reason why so many believe, think that not all sins are equal. Sometimes one need to keep things to one self because one is unsure on how others will react: we let our imagination on what might happen go wild.
Biblically, all sins are equal because God shows it to you by guilt. If one feels guilt after failing God, that same guilt encompasses all sins when committed. God is all we need, not people because they fail and because one is unsure on how they will react to something they never reacted to.
Its very important to confess sin to the one that you have failed; we fail God first, everything else comes second and sometimes they are irrelevant. Unconfessed sin will really do you a number on your soul, on your daily walk with God, and on your relationship with other people.
All that our soul needs is to confide in God and believe Him when He says; I forgive you, go sin no more. And one might say, but how?! How can I stop sinning?! On our own strength is impossible to do but if one really loves the Lord with all the heart, mind and strength, one will find a way.
Every time we sin, we spit on God's face, we step on the precious blood that redeemed our souls from hell. Every time we sin, we're not giving credit where credit is due; we're saying that the shedding of the blood on cavalry counts to nothing and God is there saying "what!!, I gave my only Child and this is how you repay me!?" It shouldn't be like that.
Our gratitude should stop us from sinning; remember, if you sin you are spitting on God's face, when you sin, you are not giving value to the Blood, to the Sacrifice, to the Redeeming of our souls.
